Lodging Spotlight: Stony Creek Farmstead

Have you ever wanted to try a completely different way of life? Maybe you live in the city and have always tried to imagine what living on a farm would be like. Picture it: instead of starting your day riding the busy subway holding on to your briefcase, what if you could just get up, put on a pair of boots and collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast? Enjoy a few days living a simpler country life, a "haycation" as some might call it... an escape for the soul.

Stony Creek Farmstead is located in the small village of Walton, NY, and they've been welcoming weary city folk and other visitors to stay on their beautiful farm for years. Owned and worked by three generations of the Marsiglio family, the farm grows meat, vegetables and eggs in a way they describe as "beyond organic". Vegetables flourish with no chemical fertilizers on nutritious soil carefully tended to by the owners. Cows, pigs, sheep and chicken roam freely on clean, lush pastures, and their welfare is thoughtfully considered throughout their lives from organic diets to the healthy, sustainable environment they live in.

To make your farm stay comfortable, rustic yet luxurious platform tents have been set up for overnight farm visitors. Each tent has canvas walls and a canopy ceiling with a wooden floor, a fully equipped kitchen and several beds to sleep up to 6 people. You’ll stay cozy without shutting nature out! The tents are intentionally off-grid to help you recharge your soul instead of your laptop.

Here, you can just relax. Participate in various tasks with the farmers, or keep to yourself and lay in a field gazing at clouds, go for a hike, interact with the animals, and enjoy a communal campfire with other guests, making new friendships. There’s a farm store stocked with fresh goods straight from the farm along with almost anything else you might need. Should you want to venture out, you’ll find restaurants, antiquing, and local events in nearby small towns. The glorious Catskill mountains surround you wherever you go. Afterwards, back in that bustling city subway, you'll draw from these beautiful, life-affirming memories for a long time to come.

Guest raves:

"This was one of the most amazing vacations I've had; enjoying the outdoor pizza oven night, eating Kate's freshly made bread every morning, milking the cow, learning how to make homemade butter, feeding the baby goats, collecting farm fresh eggs for breakfast... Kate has put her signature and care into every detail. Truly, this stay surpassed my expectation in every way."

"Our family just returned from another wonderful stay at Stony Creek Farmstead. This was our second visit. We spent the weekend with five other families with young children gathering eggs from the chicken coops, harvesting vegetables from the garden, snuggling in our cozy cabin, roasting marshmallows by the fire, and splashing about the creek. Our children have fallen in love with the barn cats and friendly farm dogs, Rose and Annikan, especially. As a non-camper, the biggest draw for me are the comfortable cabins, fully stocked with everything a family could need for a great stay. My favorite moment is sipping coffee in the early morning while watching the cows graze on the side of a grassy hill full of wildflowers against the backdrop of changing autumn leaves of the woods beyond. It doesn't get much better than that for this city girl!"
