Lodging Spotlight: The Colonial Motel

Built in 1842, the historic Colonial Motel in Grand Gorge, NY, was originally a doctor’s estate, then a boarding house. Well-kept and loved over the years, the stately "grand lady" has proudly been serving as a comfortable country inn for decades with a newer motel complex built right next to it. Beautifully situated close to many Catskills attractions, it’s the place you'll want to stay at when you’re in town for a wedding, family event, or just an outdoorsy getaway.

Owners Diane and Bob Nash know that even while on vacation, people like to feel at home. To that end, they’ve furnished each room with easy comfort in mind. Everything you'd expect is at your fingertips. And while all rooms share the same modern conveniences, each has a different look –  they are "as unique as the people who stay in them," as they like to say.

The hamlet of Grand Gorge is surrounded by the breathtaking natural beauty of the Catskill mountains with all their inherent recreational possibilities. Hunting is a big sport that brings a lot of guests to the Colonial Motel – deer, turkey and other small game thrive in these woods. Trout fishing in quiet streams or golfing on any of three nearby 18-hole golf courses attract those looking to spend time outside enjoying the stunning vistas. Major ski resorts such as Plattekill are just minutes away for winter bliss on the slopes.

A nice variety of restaurants, museums and cultural events in surrounding communities complete the recipe for an amazing stay in this beautiful inn and motel.

"The owners are wonderful people and it shows in their Motel. I've been going to the Colonial Motel for over 20 years. Always clean and very comfortable including being very pet friendly, and the staff is always warm and friendly… I'm looking forward to my next visit."

"This place gives the word motel a whole new meaning! It's more like a B&B w/o the breakfast."

"We would highly recommend staying at The Colonial Motel. The rooms were immaculately clean, the bed very comfortable, the decor a mix of genuine antiques and modern amenities, the rates moderate, and the location central to Catskill attractions."

"What can I say to explain the wonderful experience it is to stay there. First of all, clean, clean, clean. Second of all, warm and very friendly service, just cannot do enough to make your stay the best. Third of all, comfortable beds that I wish I could take home with me. Fourth of all, rooms are a mix between staying in a B&B with antiques to the motels of long ago with Mod style."
